The views down toward Silverton were nice and the Grenadiers and Twilights were a lovely sight from here. You will also lose the trail, so you just aim yourself towards the summit and pick your own way. My route started with hiking up the road - Kendall Mountain Road. You get to the old mine cave that is closed off and the road forks. The road is pretty rough and passable only to high clearance 4 WD vehicles. Th Whitehead Trail leads into the Higland Mary Lakes area to the east, but I took the trail west, wrapping around the extended west ridge of Peak 13109.
